DDT isn't used anymore.
At least according to Rythem but I haven't heard about it and didn't research it because I didn't know this topic would pop up.

Some hard core old timers bemoan the lack of anything like it, anymore. One some l;evels, I understand their frustration. It would be nice if we -could- develop a similarly long lived insecticide without all the nasty attendant risks for agricultural production.
The rei for the most leveraged pesticides used in ag (in the us) today are counted in hours or..in the case of extremely potent shit, days. In the case of suitability for consumption, sometimes weeks (strawberry root treatments come to mind - not that we eat the roots..we're just extra careful). Similarly, we've payed alot more attention to the ability of something to build up in soft tissue since the 70's. It bears mention, that the horror stories most will refer to are invariably going to end up being products that were initially developed as chemical weapons or combat assistants in the 40's (which is a criticism of modern ag that sticks on -so- many levels).
The bottom line is this...there is -no- lawful application of any agricultural product which exceeds it's allotted block in field. None, for any crop, any substance, in any circumstance. If your main gets "sick" the day before harvest, you are legally obligated to go out of business and lose everything...rather than treat it. That's one of the factors that drove the trend towards consolidated ag (and the death of the family farm) - a big operation just absorbs that loss.

So rest easy, there isn't any DDT in your food.
(good god, it really fucked up brown pelicans btw)
Only a retort to "chemicals have a short half life".

In what instance did I offend?
The pharmacists thing is a joke.
I want to be a pharmacist when I'm older.
The title about me hating theists was a joke too.
Is this whole thread a joke?

Excuse me?
How is what you just said not offensive.
I simply brought up a topic about capitalism and cures, if I was wrong you could have politely corrected me instead of getting personally attached to my disagreements.

Another thing that bears mention...the nastiest shit we still use is -not- to kill bugs. Bugs are (relatively) easy to kill with modern, fast fading pesticides. The most profitable component of DDT use, in the ag sector, was to combat -disease- for which certain bugs (like whitefly) where the most common vectors.
Whitefly, btw, still alive...still spreading disease, still costing millions.
@ Alex...as regards the above. The predictions made in Silent Spring have, since it's publication, simply not panned out. Now, here's the thing...the book at least got us thinking about it...and so I would say that ultimately, mentioning that the conclusions in that book were as sketchy as the methods used to arrive at them is one thing..and true, but it did at least get us thinking. Had our systems not changed (in some part as a response to such fears./..founded or not) they may have materialized.

It was meant to be offensive. Just as I found your comments offensive (and not the pharmacist jokes, I let those slide, maybe I shouldn't have).
You made posts lending credence to the conspiracy, a medical conspiracy to keep people sick for money. Were you joking then?
If you believe any part of the conspiracy could be true maybe you should rethink your professional path.

What comments were offensive?!?!?!??!!?!? And pharmacist jokes are jokes. I don't care if your offended just don't take your anger our on me.
I didn't credit the conspiracy. And if I did wtf is your problem?
I just was curious and asked the forums about the topic.
And Jesus fucking Christ.

Your professional? Don't you have anything better to do (like maybe your job) other than argue with a 12 year old.
