I was suddenly gone for half a year or more, and I don't remember anyone sounding the alarum bell. I wasn't as well-known to the regulars then, though.

To be honest -- I'm not sure I'd be missed anywhere. I'm a member at a musician's forum and disappeared for months this year; I have the highest post count there, in six years. I think one or two folks bothered asking what was up.
Good way to keep the ego in check. All I gotta say is if I go missing here, send a search party -- a brunette, a strawberry-blonde, and a nice mujere with eyes as black as her hair. I'll show up soon enough.
Or maybe not!

He did come back briefly but there was an incident with some toast and a bomb. I was only loosely involved.
