Has anyone seen my neutral pointer?

Who, please, tell me who it is that's clinging to billiards balls?  I want to know who you think it is, lol.

Quotation marks matter. Obviously, I don't mean that literally. However, scientists in the past century were obviously in a state of great conflict, and it was largely because some of them were looking for answers according to how they felt the universe SHOULD be, not how they had been observing it actually to be. In other words, their observations, and the avenues they were willing (or in some cases very stubbornly unwilling) to pursue were flavored by their world views-- i.e. their philosophical positions on reality. It was a movement to a less concrete world view, and a more abstract mathematical one, that allowed physics to move forward.

So I wonder if the OP regards the possibility that things are other than they seem as being pretty much equal to their being boringly conventional. Cuz I don't roll that way.

Are you talking pre-newton or something...abstract maths have been the mainstay of physics since it's invention.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

There's a difference between USING math to describe the motions and other properties of matter, and matter being ONLY describable in mathematical terms.

We use all sorts of terms to describe the material.  Your vocabulary is full of them.......very few are likely to be formulas.

Those formulas you see are the tool, the unit of measure -not what's being measured-.  One may describe a spin, another a charge.  Another position.

And I'm sure you'd define "material" as "whatever these terms describe," n'est-ce pas?

Would I be right in thinking your concept of a neutral pointer is similar to the concept of an axiom (self evident truth)?

I suppose you could, in the general.  A more specific definition would require a more specific context.  That is all the word means, broadly - matter is what stuff is made out of.  If that stuff turned out to be sub-qm candied apples......then that would be our refined concept of matter. Just for clarity, you understand that your previous statement was a gross misstep, correct? That matter is describable by means other than formulas, and that those formulas (including qm) are nothing -other- than a mathematical model of physical interactions?

When you say things like the one you did, they reduce down to absurd claims that are equivalent to the likes of "flan can only be described in spanish". Not only is this wrong, it's unclear what it's taken to mean or imply...but I have a feeling that some fundamental disconnect between us has it's origins in precisely such a sentiment.

Okay, tell me ANY of the material properties of a photon. What's it's mass? It's volume? What color is it? What shape? What it the mechanism by which it does any of the things it does?

What happens in double-slit experiments with quantum erasers? What are the material properties of a photon during that process? Most important-- does it HAVE material properties, other than a wave function and a result when it collapses onto a photographic plate?
