RE: Read any good books lately? Rate them here
Finished re-reading the first three "Lightbringer" books by Brent Weeks and started the fourth. I'm really glad I went back through them because there would be much in the ne latest one that I didn't understand because of events I forgot about in the first three. Great series so far though.

I've just started Thomas W. Judson's Abstract Algebra (2015 ed).  Ever since learning about congruence modulo n, I've been looking forward to the challenge of teaching myself abstract algebra: IMO, engaging math in a more systematic and theoretical way is really cool and fascinating. So far, IMO, this book is neat and helpful.

I keep hoping she'll novelize it. I'm not a fan of reading scripts.

I hope she doesn't. The story is.... eh. I wish she didn't approve it.

Yeah, I regretted paying for it. I like the premise a lot, but the plot, characters and dialogue are terrible. People keep telling me, "It's a script. It's not supposed to be the same." To that I say, dialogue is 90% of a script. If that sucks, it sucks.

Working my way through the collected works of HP Lovecraft. Really cool stuff, especially considering how much his work influenced future sci-fi/horror/fantasy writers. Can be a bit of a slog at some points, since some of his stories were written solely for payments from magazines, but even Lovecraft himself doesn't like those ones. Overall, super fun.

Ah, the pay per word era. I believe Dickens and/or Doyle had the same problem.

I really enjoy Lovecraft's short stories. Some are extremely abstract, which I found off-putting when I was younger. I think it makes for a more interesting read now.

I enjoy that a lot of the horror isn't from monsters jumping out and scaring you or highly graphic detailed violence (a lot of the violence happens 'off-screen' or read from newspapers or stuff like that), but it's more about the breakdown of the human mind when it encounters something far bigger and older than itself.  Neat stuff.

Yes! It's very mystical and paranormal without the gross outs.

Plus, Lovecraft has that vocabulary of a 1920s author that teaches me a lot of neat new words. Like "a gibbous moon."

This is Shell B's novella.  It's a relatively quick read plus it's very awesome. I enjoyed it a lot. Give it a read Smile
