Unbroken Mitochondrial line?
#11
RE: Unbroken Mitochondrial line?
First of all, mitochondria are derived from endocytosed bacteria, not mammals. They have a completely different genetic structure.

"completely different genetic structure". It is worth repeating: animals and humans have completely different genetic structure. Lightbulb

How can you be so wrong about something so basic? Humans are animals.

Why is it worth repeating?

It is because it appears to shallow thinkers to support a preconceived notion derived of an ancient Bedouin holy book in which they are still stupidly emotionally vested in the 21st century, and to which they seek to lend a 21 century sounding gravitas by pretending it is supported by sciency things they completely do not understand?

As it happens, many of us do understand it, and we understand the underlying science to a much greater depth than there is to understand in chapter and verse of any holy book why what you think to be worth repeating above is shallow, infantile, and above all, demonstrably false, bullshit.

Now repeat the actual fact:  all animals and humans have identical basic genetic structure, differing only in details.. Facts are worth repeating, and yet are so even if unrepeated. Bullshit concocted to defend the biblical fantasy of what the world ought to be are not worth repeating, for no amount of repeating of what seems ought to be would ever advance the cause of making them so by a millimeter.

Why would that be?   Could it be because the humans are animals and are rendered different from other animals only over time and only by the same minor incremental, naturally selected detailed genetic mutations which had also overtime made other animals different from each other?  Lightbulb

And no.  Bacteria are not animals.  Words have meanings,  all of god's creatures are not animals, and for that matter none of them are god's.  But even bacteria's basic genetic structure, different from animals in many ways, share sufficient deeper commonalities to show they are quite related, and diverged from each other relatively late into the evolution, yes, evolution, of life on earth.

Dreamy eyed theists of all labels like to think we are masters of the planet. They don't like being called "animals" because they stupidly think it is the same word evolutionary biology uses.

Theist, "Animal= something that is robotic, lacks emotions and empathy and just does".

Evolutionary science, "Animal=one species among many".

Humans are very capable of violence and crime. Just like other species kill to eat, or evolve to steal resources. But other species ALSO show empathy and emotions and cooperation and compassion.

The only thing humans have is bigger brains and more complex language.

We live on this planet, we don't own it. We adjust to the planet but also abuse it and each other. Humans are far too widely still self centered in ignoring that we are NOT special.

We are one species among many, with the same behaviors of cooperation and cruelty other species display. Nobody is saying humans should default to being cruel or violent, just that we observe those actions.

No, they really don't. Bacteria and animals have completely different genetic structures. This misquote makes it clear to me that you completely missed the basic premise: Mitochondria are the energy component in mammalian cells. They have different DNA than the rest of the cell. That is a fact.

Well, not completely obv. They use DNA and a very similar code to code for aminoacids, and I'm sure many of the organizational details are similar to what we have, no?

I believe it's actually not quite that simple.  Yes, mitochondria has its own DNA.   But it is believed what DNA mitochondria still has left inside the mitochondria is but a tiny portion of the genome belonging to free living ancestors of mitochondria. Some of that ancestral genome is lost because it is no longer needed once mitochrondria became an endoparasite, but others migrated into the nucleus of the host cell and now form part of the nuclear DNA.  These cell nuclear DNA remain vital to the functioning and reproduction of the modern mitochondria.  So notion mitochondria DNA is completely separate from those of the host cell is not entirely true.

Portions of mitochrondria DNA is housed within the mitochondria and is passed on without mitosis.   This means in all humans the portion of mitochondria DNA inside the mitochrondria is inherited largely without change solely from the mother.   But other portions of it is housed with in the host cell nucleus and passed on through mitosis as an part of hoste cell's own DNA.  These nuclear mitochrondria DNA is mixed between parents and strongly adulterated with each cycle of reproduction.

It's totally not simple! From my understanding of it all, you're right.
