The discovery of alien life may be close. How will religion survive it?

Basically the way I see it is it wouldn't do anything for the most entrenched in this generation, but it might do something for the next generation... before the bias had set in, make it less likely they'd take it up in the first place. So I see it as a long game.

On second thought, I can see the creation of new religions around such a discovery.  Angel  Worship
If god was real he wouldn't need middle men to explain his wants or do his bidding.

That would be a Darwinian thing, I think. Heaven's Gate, Bob Jones, etc.

The Bible - of course - is best read in the original Klingon.

You can't prove it wasn't.

The Old Testament sounds like Klingon behavior. They probably had blood wine too.

A questions been bugging me since the start of this thread. Just how does one tell that you are close to finding something like alien life? It seems like you have either found it or not. It is not something that is being built up to or anything, where we only need one more piece of the puzzle.

We used to have ONE non-solar planet. Now we have thousands. Those in the Goldilocks zone for that star will be examined closely. If life is ubiquitous we might see signs of chlorophyllhyll or something.

The more planets available for study the better our chances, but it's not a certainty yet. We MIGHT BE the only planet with life, which seems to me to be more unlikely than finding it on another planet.

I think you might be over estimating what we can detect of those planets. It's not like the artist representations that you see.
