Defensively -- cut firelines where possible to establish a perimeter on favorable ground, back those up with airdrops to keep the vegetation as wet as possible, and stage your supplies and units to keep those firebreaks working. I wonder if any of the crews from here are helping out with the gorge. They have lots of experience in and around canyons and in the rough terrain.

I follow a youtube watercolor artist who does monthly painting challenges and her challenge for September is "Fall colors."
I think I'm going to try to paint Multnomah Falls Lodge. With the Falls in the background. In Fall colors. See what I did there? It sucks that I'm stuck at work all day in this oppressive heat with nothing to do when I could be home painting. I guess it's time to doodle thumbnails... I hope you all are okay out there. the scary part is that if winds shift and start blowing from the east again the fire could potentially spread to some heavily populated areas. This is how close the fire is to Portland: I-84 is closed from Troutdale (the west end of the blue line) to Hood River. This is a map of what's burning as of yesterday (it's a little zoomed in from the map above):

We had smoke haze/red sun all day Monday. I think it was smoke from the Montana fires but could have been from Wa/Id also.

"Willamette Week speaks to Eagle Creek Fire witness: Group of kids found it funny"
Quote:PORTLAND, Ore. — KATU's news partners at Willamette Week spoke with a woman who witnessed a group of kids playing with fireworks along the Eagle Creek Trail Saturday afternoon, and said the group seemed to "find it funny to do this." Quote:"after he lobbed it I thought I heard a couple of girls giggle and the guy just filmed it like it was no big deal. And then they just continued down the trail." http://katu.com/news/local/willamette-we...d-it-funny RE: Wildfire

The teenager(s) who started this are going to be in big civil trouble I think - even if they manage to avoid felony convictions.
