My question is : Are atheists able to use the bible for moral standards?
It is just a question , I don't want to be disrespectfull.

Welcome. You might want to post in the Introductions thread and tell us about yourself.

Obviously, atheists don't look to the Bible as a divinely sanctioned and authoritative source for moral instruction. But there is nothing preventing atheists taking inspiration from its pages and pursuing justice for the downtrodden, extending mercy and forgiveness, or trying to live according to the "Golden Rule". There is nothing inherently theistic about that, and many atheists were first introduced to such ideas through Bible stories.

In my case, there are several episodes in the Bible that have informed my moral outlook.

That is one of my things to do. But for now I'm focusing on psychology. But still you can use it to substract( i don't knwo if the term exists, i'm not a native english speaker) good ideas . From my point of view , you never know from where will come the piece of information that you are missing .

That's true.
But information must have evidence to back it up.
Too many people take any old bit of information and believe it.
Check the sources and the validity of claims.
Be sceptical but open to new ideas, (a fine balance)
Do not give too much credence to anything because you could end up defending nonsense.

It's certainly possible to get good ideas from the bibl, but they're not good just because they came from there. They'd be good regardless.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I know i shouldn't believe all the things I read . But I could use the bible just for moral ideas and perceptions and try to merge them with my own , transform them in a way. So thats why i don't need to check them because I don't use it for scientifical purpous.

The bible should NOT EVER be used as a moral guide. Have you read it? Its full of killing people for petty infractions and oppressing women. Only use it for moral guidance if you want to live like you are in ISIS.

RE: Thoughts
I would rather use reason and empathy to try to make moral assessments. Not really important if they can also be found in a book, because moral authority can be a dodgy route to go down, viz: the condoning of slavery in the Bible.

Hmm ..thats what I do , I take information and break it down , then substract what is good of it and what I need

That is called using your own morality, not the bibles.
If you choose then the bible is not your source of morality.

Should I make a thread or post on a thread that is there already ?
