Ohh.... DOOM and my first PC 386 hehe Tongue .. of course I remember and of course a like it, who don't?! ... but a few years later a another game appears ... Age of Empire

Oh so it was sarcasm? You actually think newer games tend to be uninspired pieces of wank and Doom is not only still super fun but it remains to be just as much of an enjoyable masterpiece as it ever was.

I agree!

I even still make my own levels for it.

Doom was a euphemism for certain troll-socks who used to be fun to play with, but now they're just old. (See OP).

In general though, I think older games have a certain whimsy, gusto, and superior style that is seldom matched nowadays. (Though there are some contemporary gems.)

I agree there are some contemporary gems but they're rare.

The thing is... nowadays it's easier for games companies to just allow technology, formulas and gimmicks to carry the way but previously it was all about the gameplay.

My favorite newer game is most definitely Terraria. That game is a masterpiece.

Thats because games back in the old days were all about simple and fun gameplay. Nowadays, its more about pretty graphics, long cutscenes, complicated plot, and confusing game mechanics.

I played Terraria for a bit but ended up trading it back in. I know some people really dig that game, but I don't really dig the whole minecraft or minecraft adjacent game style.

I'm more like Baldur's Gate style isometric RPGs or rarified treasures like Shovel Knight.
