I am all for privacy, but when it comes to public office, law or politician, the scrutiny is there to insure someone else cannot hold you hostage.

Fuck that! Only if I had something to hide would I be open to blackmail. Only the governmental business conducted by the prez is open to public scrutiny. If there is a crime, get a warrant. Not a fan of the cops, myself. No use making things easier for them.

Not the point. It is certainly possible for public servants to be honest. But it is still a VOLUNTARY oath you take, and if nobody is forcing you to take that office, then you are really not being subject to tyranny. Lack of scrutiny of authority is what North Korea has. It is all run on propaganda.

Is there a law that requires the president (or anyone holding political office) to disclose their tax/IRS history? 

If the IRS does not have issues with their filings, or any filing issues were resolved to the IRS satisfaction, why should the public see the tax filings?

You would not know that, either.  The results of tax audits are also covered by the regs.

The release of tax returns has been voluntary in the past and the WLB - who doubtless is hiding the fact that he used loopholes to avoid paying much if anything in the way of taxes - was given a pass by his idiot followers.

You will get back a nice letter written in legalese which essentially says "fuck you - you have no legal standing to see them."

The FOIA office is very polite when they tell you to fuck off.

If a free society is to give power to those we elect, scrutiny of power is the ONLY thing that can prevent that power from becoming abusive.

Still not getting it! Politicians are private citizens and they do not surrender their rights to the mob! If the constitution does not protect every citizen then it is shit wipe. I have already stated that what they do , on the job, is open to public scrutiny. Their job performance is on our dollar. When it comes to their private lives, get a warrant.
