RE: Self driving Uber vehicle kills pedestrian
You know what would have made this news far more relevant?

If the self driving uber had killed someone with a gun.

Why on earth wouldn't you put your life on the line with something that comes with a 24 month warranty? Dunno

heard a report on sat radio (sorry don't recall channel I was on) that the Uber self driving system might have had some of the safety features turned off

If I find anything to link to I'll report back.

Like yourself, I've wondered who be able to afford to shop at a Walmart when that Walmart only needs to employ two or three people in order to keep the store running at peak efficiency. And when it only takes about ten people throughout the supply chain to keep that store stocked instead of the hundreds of people it requires now.

This sounds great until you realize that pay represents work done, and in such an efficient world, only company owners will be working for any money worth having.

What do we do with the other 6.9 billion people?
Dunno. Answering that question isn't my job. But I'm confident that there will be an answer. I'm not saying that answer will be pleasant, it might suck. But the day it coming and there's nothing you or I can do to stop it.

We could completely remove the grossly unnecessary monetary system.

And go back to the bartering system?

How much for a drumstick and a diet coke lady? I've got Matilda my pet lamb here, cover your eyes and ears while I cut off one of her front legs as payment...

I personally favor the idea where there is no such system in place. No need for bartering when everyone just gets what they need when they need it.

Notice that I used the word "need" and not "want". Wink

I fully expect a 40-50% unemployment rate by 2040. We're most likely going to have to install a universal basic income for people to survive.
