Shouldn't it read:

Myself, myself, why hast I forsaken me ??




Let's post about the Trinity some more.  Maybe we can work it out better, and maybe even get Jesus up to speed on it !!

Atill pretty sure there are more verses that indicate they are different people, than verses indicating they're the same person. And yes, him begging the father not to make him do it before the crucifixion, and asking why he was forsaken during it, are two great examples.

Jesus was something of a close angel to God, according to the magical lore of the bible.

Meh. The alleged quote is the beginning of Psalm 22 and can be read as Jesus displaying for those assembled the proper attitude of submission to God's will.

That it's Matthew, tireless champion of the view that every time Jesus farted he fulfilled some aspect of Hebrew scripture, who tells of this supposed event comes as no surprise.

The proper attitude of submission is asking god why he's being a dick right now?......

Lol. No. But the psalm in its entirety bears that out. Presumably Matthew's audience would have been familiar with it.

I doubt the man said any such thing on the cross. *shrug*

Considering that crucifixion kills by the weight of the body causing the victim to be unable to draw breath after a while on the cross, the idea that he said anything at the last is a bit ridiculous.

Some say that Jesus' saying these words increases the plausibility of the crucifixion occurring, due to the argument of embarrassment. The idea is that for the later gospel writers this utterance was not theologically sound enough, thus He is instead recorded as saying "Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit," and "It is finished," instead.

Now I don't hold to that view theologically, but it is an interesting argument from the non-mythicist position.

One of the big problems with the Criteria of Embarrassment is that it assumes that ancient people thought the same way about things as we do.

Ex.  "Why would the jews invent a history which says they were slaves.  That's embarrassing so it must be true."

Ans:  The point was that their "god" could help even slaves.... the lowest of the low on the social scale... overcome the greatest earthly power if only they just behave themselves and do what the fucking priests tell them to do.
