Yeah, I'm sure that my attempts to discuss daycare, preschool and prison release programs along with the importance of encouraging real achievements right from the start are heartbreaking to all those negatively affected by those ideas.  I'm sure my position that if America doesn't get its shit together, and if the next black Einstein is left on the street corner due to a lack of opportunity, America will be fucked-- that's pretty hurtful, too, right?

Look, dude, I don't even disagree with your goals.  I just think there are better ways to achieve them.  I cannot endorse any policy based on differential treatment of demographic groups, either by race, gender or anything else.

I'll be very surprised if the only catalyst that will un-fuck the clusterfuck that is American race relations isn't either WWIII or open rebellion and subsequent government reform.  Drawing lines based on melanin and then shouting "Stop drawing lines based on melanin" is so obviously unlikely to do anything useful.  Drawing lines between classes, and making a point of being heard, seems like a better tack-- but I feel like poor whites, and Asians, and poor blacks should be together in the endeavor of freeing up pie, rather than fighting over whatever table scraps the 1% have condescended to allow to enter public pockets.

I can only tell you that affirmative action isn't what you think it is so many times...right? I can only tell you that affirmative action policies are successful at what they intend to do, while affirmative action ban states have predictably white outcomes...so many times..right?

Nothing is going to unfuck the us. We've tapped out, we're a lost cause, as much as it pains me..as a rabid usian partisan, to say that. In the best of cases, the rest of the world learns from our example. We're a dying hegemon. We've failed to live up to the premise that made us successful, initially...and not because we went pc or enacted affirmative action...but because we continued to grant credence to viewpoints like your own. I was practically a bride of Obama. I thought-- here we are. We've got a black president in the US, the Dems have total control. The people are fully mobilized and feeling inspired. He's going to put everyone to work, he's going to rectify problems with sentencing, he's going to get pot legalized, he's going to bring the country together.

Now, I feel that was America's last chance. I'll bet $100 Trump wins re-election by starting a war last-minute, and spend the next 4 years working out how to melt all the ice caps and start Armageddon.

I still don't like identity politics, though.

Identity politics as a way of identifying victim groups and restoring them to equality is the wrong path, in my opinion. I just don't think things should ever be framed in that way. But identity politics as a way of targeting and deliberately holding back a demographic leads to gas ovens and bodies swaying from branches. I think both are potential dangers to a stable society based on liberty and equality of opportunity-- but the latter is explicitly evil, much more immediately dangerous, and is a clear violation of the principles of the US constitution, right from the opening declaration.

As for the identity politics of the far-right: white people under attack and all that-- I know you think I'm parroting them-- and in a sense, when I'm applying my view of real equality toward PC, then the arguments are almost identical. But when I'm applying the same standards toward the right, then they aren't going to find me so agreeable.

By the way, I'm interviewing a black girl for a position tomorrow. Whatever I think about those fuckers I told you about before, if I think she's going to be a positive factor in making my company money, the ink won't even have time to dry before I have her in training. But, just so you can hate me even more, I plowed through resumes from about a dozen surly-looking old professionals to get to her pretty young smiling portrait. Should I put on my shower cap, grab my rubber ducky, and prepare for an inevitable deluge of PC rage coming my way?

(just kidding about that by the way) I usually hire two kinds of candidates: those with a lot of experience, a lot of finished contracts, and strong references, and those who are young and super-energetic, express a real interest in developing themselves, and can be made to understand that a 21 year-old doesn't know everything there is to know.
