RE: Choosing who you are

since this conversation's already been had, let me try a different tack.
Do any classes deserve privileged status? Should people with kids get tax exemptions? Should veterans get 0 down on their mortgage? Basically should we treat people differently?
If you answered that we shouldn't, then that would reduce to everyone should just do what they want and have all of the same opportunities. There should be no such thing as a woman's bathroom, men's basketball team, etc. I don't think the reduces to something productive.
I believe people are different in many ways. We should celebrate the plurality of those differences. When it comes to accommodations, reparations and legal issues, it gets exponentially more complex with every class that is defined. There has to be some consensus or framework to group the differences. I believe less is better usually. For instance, I think census forms should have American or not and Do you have dual citizenship? Since the census was originally about voting but more now about population maybe a question like How many people in your household followed with Are you able to give birth. IDK, just some quick thoughts

Oh look. Yet another thread started by an American demanding that one of the most marginalised minorities justify their existence.
And no matter how many times this topic gets raised and questions answered, the same demands keep getting made.

Having just spoken to a friend of mine tonight who is on the verge of killing herself because she is transitioning and doesn't know why she should continue, I am not in the mood to be goaded into the same old tired arguments again and again by someone just wanting an argument rather than to learn. I have made my fair share of rational arguments. They are there to be found using the search function if you actually wanted to learn.
First though you need to learn the difference between gender and sex.
People are more than just their body. They also consist of a brain. And the argument about race is bogus. A fetus does not start off one colour in the womb and turn into another. Yet a fetus will start off female and due to hormonal washes in the womb parts of it will develop differently depending on genes. This includes parts of the body and the brain.
And no, don't bother trying to goad me any more. I'm off to bed.

I have always considered trans to be homosexuals that take it to the next level, either by dressing like the opposite sex, or by even having a surgery.
Idk if this is correct though

Gender and biological sex are different. Emerging scientific evidence strongly suggests that gender-identity originates in the brain, and that the brains of transgendered folks are more like the gender they identify as, rather than the gender their biological sex is commonly associated with. So, your proposition that trans people are picking what gender they want to be based on something arbitrary like favoritism or whim, and therefore people of various races could theoretically do the same thing, is inherently flawed and not supported by evidence.

I'm unsure why this is an issue. If you're black and want to identify as white, I'm OK with that. If you're Polynesian and want to go round telling people you're an Inca, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
The number of people re-identifying themselves as regards gender or race is such a tiny percentage of the overall population, I can't see it as a serious issue. No country is going to go bankrupt safeguarding equal rights for these people (the alternative is almost too horrible to contemplate), nor is it going to infringe on the rights of other people.

We can choose to either learn, and adjust our positions according to the evidence, or dig our heels in and hit the “repeat” button on the same old, tired arguments, because implicit biases are more comfortable:

Now, if you’re interested in discussing the actual science, that would be a conversation worth having.

You mean equal rights for people? Yes.
