I agree, way too many unstable people have easy access to extremely dangerous weapons.
But we can't do anything about it. Because the NRA won't let us do anything about it. They're too powerful a lobbying organization and any time anyone suggests any kind of gun regulations, even something as simple as a trigger lock or a background check, they wet their collective pants.
You want to get real gun control passed? Go the opposite direction. Start arming antifa. Arm the black panthers again and have them follow cops around. Arm labor unions and gay rights groups and hispanic people and muslim immigrants and all the other groups republicans hate. They'll suddenly start supporting gun control when "those people" start arming themselves.
And, yes, this has actually happened before. The NRA supported gun control when the Black Panthers started arming themselves.

It might be better to change the laws regarding lobbying and campaign contributions than to do what you suggest.

As much as I agree with you, it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to change those laws without first getting Citizens United reversed.
Sure, work towards changing things. But until then, learn to use the system as it is. And, yeah, if it's a fucked up system (and it is) that sometimes requires fucked up thinking.

I think I have a workaround: Pass a law that requires politicians to only accept bribes...erm...I mean 'campaign contributions'...of than a thousand or more than a billion dollars.

Something occurred to me after scrolling through the billionth gun thread.
For the people who are set against guns...do you watch and enjoy television shows and movies where there is gunfire?
Yeah, yeah...I know it's make believe but it seems to me that if you want to do away with guns then they really shouldn't be showing up in nearly every action movie that comes to the screen. Do we take Yosemite Sam's guns from him too? Where's the line, if there is one?
Do we do away with the images of guns like we pretty much did away with the depiction of cigarette smoking in movies?
Just throwing it out there.
I am behind better vetting of people who want to purchase a firearm. And I think that gun ownership should be more traceable...like tied to your driver's license or something and if you commit a crime, with or without, a firearm you should be assessed regarding your legal ability to continue to own a gun.

No, I don’t think there’s any real reason to curtail the depictions of guns in films. Yes, I enjoy a good shoot ‘em up. I don’t see a conflict.
But, on reflection, I think maybe your question wasn’t directed at me.
Good question, though.

Personally, I like guns. Never owned one until I returned to the US in 1975. Fun controlling them. But I think they're useless for "defense". If you're open carry and someone comes for your gun or your neck they're ahead of you in the anger arc. You might never see them, just wake up in the ER or recovery suite after major surgery. Might as well hang a bull's eye around your neck.

That's what CCW is for.
And don't hang a bunch of pro 2nd ammendment bumper stickers on your car. It tells the thief to follow you to your house then wait for you to go to work - so they can break in and steal your stuff...
If you saw me in public it is highly unlikely you would suspect I carry a gun.

I don’t like them, but I’m not ‘set against them’ either. I just prefer that they be kept out of the hands of irresponsible people.
