What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What Do You Know Today That You Didn't Know Yesterday?
I read my bible very often. I get new insights and pick up on interesting things from it. That is the only new thing i learn from. I spend most of my time communicating with others, when i am not working a paid job.

(Bold mine)

I find that almost unutterably sad.

The highlighted text is what stands out to me.

Really, you don't try learning from a book on evolution, moral philosophy, cosmology, comparative religion, climate change, human sexuality, or 80's rock?

Edit: darn, Boru beat me to it

There's nothing new in the Bible, just tall tales hijacked from other cultures and retold around camel dung campfires to make the kids a little less depressed at having been born into a tribe of camel jockeys who can't keep hold of a single valley or watershed.

If they could've, they wouldn't have told other people some bullshit about how fairies would get them.

In the remake of ‘Ocean’s 11’, Julia Roberts was barefoot in virtually every scene in which her feet are not visible. The production company had a product placement deal with a high-end shoe designer, and Roberts claimed the shoes hurt her feet when she walked. Consequently, in nearly every scene in which she’s wearing shoes, she’s either seated or standing still.

Not necessarily today, but learned recently.

Peter Cushing didn't like the boots of his uniform in Star Wars, which is why you rarely see him wearing them.

He wore slippers.

That's right. Tarkin was wearing slippers when he blew up Alderaan...

That’s weirdly endearing.

I wonder if it's a necessary part of the language or just an exaggerated accent.

Apparently, it is necessary.

Quote:Yes, it does... It is important to be able to correctly pronounce words in any language-- rolling the r's is one of those correct pronunciations.... Sometimes, the rolling of the r's can differentiate words such as:

pero (but) and perro (dog)

buro (chalk) and burro (donkey)

maron (sturgeon[type of fish]) and marrón (brown)

careta (mask) and carreta (cart/wagon)

caro (expensive) and carro (car)

coro (chourus) and corro (ring/circle)

ahora (now) and ahorra [form of verb ahorrar] (she saves)

garo (type of lobster) and garro [form of garrar] (I drag)

bario (barium) and barrio (neighborhood)
