Air Florida, Flight 90.

(This post was last modified: March 26, 2021 at 4:53 pm by Brian37.)
I grew up 12 miles south of Washington DC, so before and after, I had crossed the 14th Street bridge countless times. I didn't go to school in the city of DC, just in that in my years living in the suburbs I had been over that bridge countless times. Mostly to go to the Mall and museums.
I was not on the bridge at the time, but we had a snow day and school was canceled, and watched the aftermath live on the news. It freaked me out knowing I had been on that bridge many times.

Is it some anniversary we aren't aware of or are you just listing your fear of flying? We already know about that.
Move on...fuxake you are trapped in the past.

I also have to say, back then, air travel advertisement was heavy on "on time" advertisement. I would bet that the captain was worried about getting fired and rushed. That isn't so much the case at all now. Most air disasters today are not from rushing, but from either bad design, computer programing, or miscommunication between the plane and ground control.
The documentary speculated that the pilot hugged the ass of the jet in front of them to get hot air to melt the ice on the wings/engines, but instead it simply melted water which re froze covering the engine censors on takeoff.

The footage of people diving into the icebound river to try to rescue people still hides in a corner of my mind.

That was my first thought, that is was the anniversary of the crash. It isn’t.

Don't understand what?
It freaked me out at the time. It is also part of why I have a fear of flying. Even last month seeing that jet engine on fire. But that Flight 90 was close to home for me. The airport is a stone's throw from the 14th Street bridge. I was watching a documentary on TV just now about that flight. It simply reminded me of that day back in January 1982.
The idiot captain as it turned out had a history of reports of ignoring procedure. He basically rushed not allowing proper d-icing and that caused the engine sensors to give bad data on takeoff, and they didn't have enough power to keep lift, and the plane stalled hitting the 14th Street bridge.
I will say this, it was still amazing that even 5 people survived.
I don’t understand why you posted it. Not a big deal, it just seems kind of random.
