Do you like interacting with people

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

From my son's Family Day at MCRD San Diego this last May:

Ask him about the bridge, assuming it's still there. I meant the bridge. Recruits get yelled at if they walk in cadence on the bridge. Hard habit to break after weeks of getting yelled at because they AREN'T in step. It's all about the harmonics, of course. RE: Do you like interacting with people

By people, you mean random strangers, I'm guessing? A good interaction with random strangers often requires being spontaneous and lively and having high "emotional IQ" so you could pick up on social cues effectively and respond appropriately. As someone with autism, this is stuff I've struggled with all my life, so it's rarely a good interaction for me, and in fact quite draining (which worsens my social skills even more). As such, I almost never enjoy these interactions. With people I've warmed up to, and who know me well enough, it's different and I find interacting with them to be generally quite pleasant. Mainly because the dynamics tend to be different (and far more relaxing for me) when they are already aware that I struggle with socializing, but they nevertheless wouldn't mind talking to me. |
