"Weird" or "creepy" is about the IQ level verbiage suitable here. "Fascism" is one of them there foreign words.
It it would be a case of stupidity then it would be solvable but I'm afraid it's wilful malevolence at play - wanting to make life of others (especially those who are already struggling) worse is pure malice and this is what republican voters want and applaud. To spite "libruls" they're willing to make even their own life worse.
That said I'm sure that certain segment of populace is simply dumb, just like in any other country.
