Blunder by NAP?

I have to respectfully disagree with Adam Lee - as I told him on G+

"First of all, the media that's going to give us negative coverage is going to spin whatever we do into something negative.

Second, I took the invite to mean the NAP has confidence that rally attendees will be on far better behavior than WBC might give atheists and secularists credit for. I completely agree that they shouldn't have done it on their own.

Third, against a crowd that size, WBC is going to look more ridiculous and pathetic than ever. As far as I can tell no one takes them seriously anymore except the fringe that they appeal to - not even most Christians."

I've already taken the Friday before off so I can go up there - several members of the CAA are supposedly also taking a bus up. I guess we'll see how everyone behaves!

A crowd like that would be great cover for an unscrupulous mischeif maker with a 40mm canister launcher....Thinking
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Yeah, we said the same thing about the Rally for Sanity but people don't tolerate that shit and are pretty quick to halt an asshole.

Also, you don't "launch" ANYTHING up in DC anymore. In fact, if you're not in obvious running clothes, running isn't even a good idea - it makes security guards nervous.

I still don't get how you can even have a 'national atheist party'. Bloody stupid.

We have a TEA party and a Coffee Party, Nap. This is America. When they said all things were possible and that whatever you could dream, you could do, it gave rise to all sorts of nonsense.

It's a tossup whether the WBC would have known about the rally and showed up on their own anyway. I think they're probably just going to get themselves noticed in the news for one, and secondly hoping that some evil atheist pushes them around so that they can play the victim card and sue them. I'm hoping all atheists who attend there will be civil since there's nothing to be gained by attacking the WBC. They've done far more to promote atheism than any atheist could ever hope to do.

Unless you can manage to kill all of them at once.
