Appearently waste in defense spending is not a total waste.

National Reconnosaince office donated to NASA two (2) Hubble Space Telescope clones that were built in secret and originally intended for high resolution spying. These clones appearently match Hubble's powers. But they are redundant becasue NRO has something better.

Of course the original Hubble is 19 years old and will reach end of life and be de-orbited in 2 years. Originally astronomy community was expected to be without any optical and near-infrared space telescope until the James Webb scope, mired in cost overruns, eventually go up in the next few centuries.

Now if only NASA could find the means to launch these two unexpected windfalls so they could be put to use.

Good! Very good.

I'm sure one day I'll hear on the news that they've found a planet with life on it. I know Kepler 22b is showing promise. Very earth like.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Let's hope so, because so far there's been no definite indication of any life on any planet - and I'm including Earth.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
