When we speak of materialism around here, that's not quite what we mean.

Win what? More toys?

Consumerism has taught the gullible to equate standard of living with quality of life. Cool Shades

Materialism is needed in this world to distinguish the potential of different people.

A blunt declarative sentence is not an argument. Perhaps have a go at explaining 'why.' Perhaps also explain exactly what you mean by 'human potential' 'and how you measure it.

Umm, is English not your first language?

Here,'materialism' tends to be used in the the philosophical sense:

Quote:In philosophy, the theory of materialism holds that the only thing that exists is matter or energy; that all things are composed of material and all phenomena (including consciousness) are the result of material interactions. In other words, matter is the only substance, and reality is identical with the actually occurring states of energy and matter.

Nah, people commonly mistake materialism for "our materialistic society"...people constantly correct them as well. To no avail.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Nah,not just you. Freedom seems to be a bit of a dill, and an intransigent one at that. Either a young adolescent or a really gormless adult. (?)

I think the description of 'religious beliefs' may be a a disingenuous evasion.(not to mention a fatuous one)

My bullshit detector went off with his first post. I have not changed my mind.

I smell a dogmatic believer of some kind.
