Where do atheists get their morality from?
RE: Where do atheists get their morality from?

You know, I'll be honest, even decades after I'd left the Christ child behind in my anxiety closet, when I heard about the blaspheming challenge and the mention of it in The God Who Wasn't There, I felt very uncomfortable about doing it myself. I guess some memes die hard. I was raised Christian, and while my Taoist and Hindu beliefs, ostensibly, have carved out the space once occupied by God and Christ, the concepts and symbols in Christianity still light me up in ways that are comparable to those of even my sweet goddess. (Although Kwan Yin lights me up pretty good, too, and I've never been a Buddhist.)

While I respect the radar of the atheists here, and find myself a bit suspicious as well, there are other potential explanations. One of which may be that he's simply a bit of a jerk.

I'm still puzzled that the challenge was issued (if not originally than surely repeatedly) by a Christian.

Can I do that?

*Looks up at the sky* Fuck you, God. Fuck you with a big, rusted, jagged, dirty piece of metal. Fuck you with it hard. If you want to do something about it, come and get me. Fuck you with HIV infected blood caked all over that piece of metal.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain Vinny here is a troll whose just trying to get a reaction from atheists, not to mention his 'Jersey Shore wannabe' persona is a little insulting to me as an Italian, but, hey, I'd rather not get worked up and feed the troll.

Haha, I find the blasphemy quite amusing and cool. That's because in Christian Forums if anyone dares to say half as much, he gets banned permanently. It's like "Oh my goodness! Poor God gets reviled so badly the poor bugger can't do a thing about it. God is weeping in the corner in shame and ignominy. Oh please, do something. Let's ban the bugger who said that so at least poor God can wipe away his tears and smile again."

I have nothing against blasphemers because honestly, the only person who ought to be angry and do something is God himself. If he wishes to go into hiding, then I think he deserves all the blasphemy he gets. Of course, my theory may be right - he's a metaphor for goodness and truth and blaspheming God is a bit like saying, "Goodness and truth, I curse you, etc etc". It doesn't make the blasphemer bad. He just sounds silly because goodness and truth have no feelings to be hurt. It's any time better to have someone who blasphemes goodness and truth but in his life, he's a good and truthful person than to have someone who praises goodness and truth but in his real life, he's bad and false.

But Vinny the fundamentalist Christian won't dare to blaspheme. I want him to blaspheme specifically God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. Say the vilest things about God if he insists he's an atheist or pretends to be one.

Yeah, I know. Hey, guys, you worship an all powerful, all knowing God, right? If that God exists, he knows I'm blaspheming him and if he wants me banned, well, what good is an all powerful God if he can't prevent me from posting on an internet forum.

Heh, I do that one irl, too. Even more fun, then, because I get to use rude gestures as well. I mean, if people are cool with their religion, I'm cool with them, but when they go out of their way to preach to me whether I like it or not, I don't hold back. I usually piss them off and teach them about the parts of the Bible they never paid any attention to before.

See, I'm not certain he's a Christian, fundamentalist or otherwise. He honestly looks more like a troll than anything and he's going to say whatever will get a reaction. It's kinda how trolling works and if you do it right, it can be funny. Unfortunately, Vinny here isn't doing it right.

Oh, so the next step is to actually ask what the two conditions are? OK. I mean, I was following your lead, so if that's the rules of this particular game...

Condition 1: Blaspheme.

Be bold.

Be awesome.

Blaspheme.

(grabs some popcorn)

And what's the second condition?

I believe he wants you to blaspheme before he'll tell you the second condition.

I'll be sitting here waiting, troll boy. Listening to you tell us all the half assed reasons you aren't going to do it should be fun.

I keep refreshing my page. Is Vinny the Christian fundy in disguise going to blaspheme God? Or will I have to wait forever? Remember, in the long post full of blasphemy against God, don't forget to specifically mention God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost just in case God fails to hear you properly.

I can see God cringing in the corner waiting helplessly for the blasphemy. LOL

I'll share that one after you've done this one. I'm still waiting.

Can we start a pool based on how long it takes him to actually do it?

He's not going to blaspheme. It's so obvious Vinny the pretender is afraid God will strike him dead with lightning. But Vinny, you should know God can't do that. If you tease a dog, it might bite you but God is totally helpless. You can kick him in the rump and he will only go "Ouch" so inaudibly that there's no evidence of the slightest sound.
