To briefly answer your question, making heroin (or prostitution) illegal doesn't stop people using heroin.
No, it actually just creates a black market, which is actually far more dangerous to an individuals health than anything else.
If I change the example to be prostitution (to be more on point), legalising it would drastically increase the safety of both the prostitutes and the clients.
I'm pretty sure explanations have been given as to why this would be the case earlier on in the thread.
Bottom line, outlawing it doesn't solve anything. Legalising and regulating at least gives you some real control over prostitution, without infringing on anyone's freedoms.

Puritans do have the odd idea that making something that is an accepted part of life illegal will actually make it go away. That it might just cause the problem to be worse never enters their constricted little minds.
Prostitution exists in every country -including Saudi Arabia. The only difference is that the more illegal it is the less protection that prostitutes have and the more legal the more protection they have. So when hayden states that he wants to keep it illegal 'because it damages the individual' he actually doesn;t give a shit about the 'individual' because it is quite clear that under his regime things are worse for prostitutes.
In a completely legalised area you don't get 'Pimps' whp control and beat up prostitutes because they have every legal protection, they work on their own or for well regulated companies.
So its never about concern for the prostitute and always about the inner disgust that that person as with sex.
Frankly Whores are every bit as essential as fast food workers. They rpovide a variety of sexual services at maximum convenience.
I like to vary between older (30-35 year old) Workers who are very skilled and are vastly more creative and the youngest end (18-21) who have incredible bodies.
Why shouldn't I have access to them?

Ok mate , after sleeping on this , it does seem to make sense. I guess
if it makes the girls safer then it must be better.
And perhaps i am old-fashioned , but i just don't like the idea of girls having to sell thier bodys to 'make ends meat' , or to pay for an education. But i can see now the legality of this is an irrelevance.

Haydn....
This is where you fail. SOME "ladies of negotiable affection" actually ENJOY what they do and have raised it to an art form.
Shit man....just WHERE have you been living??

Hayden Total and utter Kudos for changing your mind. Its always a really tough thing to look at facts and then come up with a different worldview.

To be fair... there being a regulated gun market does not remove the existence of the unregulated variety. There's probably still a market for a disposable person human.

Im sure they do . Those arn't the ones i worry about , its the heroin- addicted/desperate/coerced etc. But i agree , prostitution being illegal won't help this and would infringe on the freedom of woman who just want to make a few quid.
Violet lilly blossom makes a good point about there still being a market for the 'disposable human' and i agree even with legality , there will be coercion and sexual slavery , but at least then we could concentrate on eliminating that aspect of it.

Absolutely true. Just because you're all for prostitution being legal in no way means you automatically condone it. You can still think that prostitution is a bad career choice etc.
But the simple fact is people should be given the freedoms to do what they wish with their bodies, whether you think it's reputable or not.
And like someone else mentioned, maximum kudos for truly considering another point of view

True, but this is somewhat apples and oranges. It would not necessarily remove ALL the negative aspects of the service, but unlike the guns, one does not need to pass a federal background check.
