I realize that you believe Cinjin has wronged you, which I won't get into as it's not my fight, but do you realize that this is about as big of an insult you hurl at anyone, let alone a non-believer? Essentially, what you are saying is that you think that the person you will be praying for is such a horrible human being that you will petition your deity on their behalf to intervene in their life to turn them into something you find more agreeable, or at the very least, show them some mercy. It would have been less insulting and less condescending to simply have called him an "asshole."
Now, maybe you didn't intend it that way, but that is how it comes across.
Do you have any idea how many people on here hurl insults at me for far less than What Cinjin has said?? Geez,I got attitude after my first post just because someone thought I should have introduced myself. Does anyone else on here care that the Christian gets insulted at a far more offensive level?? Of course not. Institute a mandatory "online rule" about it and hold EVERYONE to it !! BTW,THIS IS CINJINS SIG: If something I said offended you ... you should probably go somewhere else. Practice what you preach!

How do you know how I meant it??

In 60 seconds you will burn in that stove you are in, you can try to pray for god, or you can leave the stove. Live or die, make your choice.
Ill put in a good word for you too.

Really? After three weeks, you thought that this (^) was worth adding to the thread? You need to take a chill pill, dude
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

You missed my point, which is that any insult hurled at you pales in comparison to "I'll pray for you."

I dont think pity is condescending and I certainly dont think praying for someone is insulting.
Theres a TON of scripture which makes me feel bad that I dont pray ENOUGH for people in the way TNmusicman has.
Look at it from my/our POV.
God exists.
God wants everyone to be saved.
Suppose Lion IRC couldnt care less about what God wants and never gave the matter any thought? (Lifes too short to waste it praying for others or meditating - aka praying - about their spiritual happiness.)
Then what? How is God going to judge me and my laziness?
Praying for someone you think is sick is seen by Christians as an honor and a duty. (See James 5:16)
Such a hostile reaction from an atheist - who supposedly thinks prayer/God is just meaningless superstition - strikes me as odd.

And that is why I find prayer distasteful - and a perfect reflection of the standard christian passive aggressive, self centered ethos; it's all about the one who is praying - putting soul money in the god bank - and has not a fucking thing to do with the target of the prayer.

I can sort of understand that. Christians praying for me is neither here nor there, I won't be offended. From their POV I'm the one with the problem, so it's only natural to pray for me to see the light. They are of course wronger than a massive wrong thing, but meh. Delusion eh?

Back that statement up.
NOW.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Atheists making fun of prayer is fairly common.
What I dont get is anger and vitriol about whether or not someone prays. Thats emotional atheism. Thats IRRATIONAL atheism!
Here, let me wave a quartz crystal up in the air and light an incense stick.
Does that enrage clear * cough* thinking atheists too? Is it a grossly offensive insult to do that?
