America is a melting pot, it always has been. We are a multi-cultural amalgamation of all kinds of people, and yet you still demonize everyone who is not a rich, white, heterosexual christian male or his submissive and obedient wife.

I find the word "liberals" in it`s use to be weird within the US.
Oftern used as if it describes a disgusting disease, it categorises a entire political class of people, who actualy hardly ever refer to themselves as "liberals".
From what I saw of the democratic party so far, the range of different opinions within it is very diverse.
It is also used in such a unspecific way, meaning that it never points out a specific person, but always describes a nebolous block of people, of which one should be afraid to be categorised in.

But I guess the use of that word falls into exactly the same category, like Stalin refering to his "enemies" as the "bourgeoisie".

To me it means liberterians, since it`s what most European liberterian parties call themselves.

You know, I'm curious: if a party with identical policies to the US Republican party were to be set up in Europe, what would it generally be labeled as? Because from what I know about European politics, even the conservatives are more liberal than the GOP.

I think the Polish and Spanish conservative parties would come close to having the same position like the US republicans.

With the exception of social healthcare. Which has been proven to be the best form of healthcare and was widely accepted throughout all political parties here.

The Polish conservatives might be a step to extreme, since some members (including former president Lech Kaczynski) have been publicly antisemetic.

The Spanish conservatives might come closest.
They also wrecked their countries economy and are to spineless to take responsibility and they also have their fair share of climate change deniers within their partie.

But on the religious section? No fucking way. Most countries here clearly seperate religion and state.
Maybe Ireland, Spain and Italy where the catholic church has enormous influence in politics can be compared, but they are mainly catholic and not protestent like the conservatives in the US.

Actually raising taxes on the wealthy was really more of a Reagan thing than anything else in the last 30 years...aka the Alternative Minimum Tax. The unprecedented growth actually started six months to a year under Bush, but that also lead to the recession.

The GOP getting what it wanted leading to a fucked up America happened under the Democrats....I can let Clinton slide on it because the GOP were in control of Congress at the end, but Obama gets no quarter for allowing the Republicans to get away with almost everything they ever wanted.
