.. and a wonderful pond and garden! The yellow looks to be a real monster size. Do your dogs like to bath in the pond?

This is my new pup. She is nearly 3 years old but I've only had her about half of that. She is a Cattledog X Australian Shepherd.

Ever since childhood, any male dogs I am around become viciously protective of me, follow me around and sometimes try to hump me. (even the fixed ones)

My grandmother had a dachshund who would stand at my crib and growl at people who got too close. Seems okay. Kinda cute that he'd protect the baby, though he never did that for me little bro.

We had a bichon frise when I was growing up who sat on top of me when I slept and barked/growled at anyone who entered my room.

My friend's dog did the same thing and even bit her once when she was brushing my hair.

My friend's 14 year old dog, Snoopy, does it when I go over to her house. I've only been there a handful of times, but when I am there, he sits next to me and growls at the people who have cared for him his whole life should they get too close to me. It's really weird.

Anyone have any idea? My sister is a vet and she says it's the damndest thing ever.
I have to admit I'm slightly jealous of this. I want to love on pretty much every dog I meet, but most of them won't come near me.

I have a 1 year old cat named Artemis. I want a dog, too, but I don't have enough space for one. My apartment is DAMN SMALL.

I've added a second one since last year.

Here they are sharing a tender moment.

Greyhounds don't take up much space.

Whenever we do an adoption event they always put us next to the greyhounds - alphabetical order...go...gr, not many combinations in between. Both Goldens and Greyhounds are quiet breeds. They stand there looking at each other except for the occasional butt sniff. There is a greyhound track down by Tucson and their president and I were swapping stories one time and she told me that most of the dogs they take in have leg fractures from the strain of racing. The breeders - damn them all to be forced to drink lava - have bred them so that their bones are so light and brittle that they can't stand the pounding of what they are breeding them to do.

So much for intelligent fucking design.

Pops broke both his hocks during his 77 race professional career. He will be 13 next month and is much the worse for all the wear and tear. I'm not convinced the problem is thin brittle bones as much as it is those huge freaking rear biceps. Racing greys do have one thing going for them in the breeding department. Polygenic traits like hip dysplasia that affect a large number of other pure breeds are practically unheard of in racers.

That adoption group is special if most of the hounds they get are special needs. Pop's surgery on his last broken hock ran about $4,000 and that was in 04.
Save a life. Adopt a greyhound.

Yeah - they do a lot of fundraising..as we do. We have a series of vets in Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott who are in our "stable." We get a significant discount in exchange for bringing them our business. I'm sure Greyhound Rescue has the same arrangement with an orthopedic specialist.
