I see this picture on BBC News and I wonder do you think perhaps religion has gone the same way as this picture.

What I mean is in 200 - 300 years from now people will never have heard of the original and think that this new painting is the original.

Perhaps thats whats happened with Christianity - What it shows is no matter how delicate the work there is always a way to undo it and falisfy it. So it also opens a view that the bible under the right people could be altered as easily as this painting.

It's a fact that the bible was changed and manipulated throughout the years of it's existence.

It's been in the form it is now since the 4th century. If you read the stuff they left out you can see why it was left it out.

Well considering there are approximately 233 different versions of it on sale today, i would tend to dismiss that. And what makes the stuff the left in any more reliable than the stuff they left out??

If you don't know what the fuck you're doing, leave the artwork restoration to someone who does.

This is awful.

Back in the day I wrote monologues and performed them for different causes and events in different places. When I decided to take some time off from doing that I was asked to attend a certain convention for women empowerment, but I declined. Anyway, the lady in charge of it asked if I could write it and she would perform. I reluctantly accepted. I wrote it and when she performed it, not only did she twist it around and "fix" it to her comfort zone, but she never gave credit where credit is due (she gets paid for performing, by the way). This was like 6 years ago, and I have heard of her still performing my same piece in different places. grrrrrrrrrrrr you don't mess with people's art.

Oh, and yes. I think this same thing could have happened with religion.

They're just different translations, Catholics have a couple extra OT books in their Bible.

Also these tended to be written a couple of hundred years later. They left out the Gnostic gospels where an evil God created the universe and secret knowledge of the real God will release you from his clutches as that wasn't really very orthodox.

Some of the Gnostic stuff was alright though if you're not taking it historically.

So when something in the bible says something bad and you say it's just a mistranslation or in the wrong context that's ok, but they actually all say the same thing?? You can't have it both ways!
