What is 'god' or 'gods'?

What the title says. It always troubled me that there are people 'attempting' to prove god(s) without even defining the thing. I have seen enough of theistic rethoric here, all to prove that they argue for a god that is quite relative to their own subjective view. All this claiming an objective morality.
So yeah, !define god and I relax watching the religionists kill eachother over it 
They'll just say something like the human mind can't even begin to comprehend the nature of our god, etc etc

The question is for atheists too. IMO god(s) is/are unknown, a concept with so many sparse definitions to begin with, to even begin to take it seriously.
Gods are whatever the believer needs them to be. They are the distorted reflection of one's own fears and prejudices writ large and projected onto the Universe. But above all they are useful.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
On monotheist religions, god seems to be the entity that caused the whole Universe to exist. The creator.
On polytheist religions, each god is in charge of a particular aspect of Nature and can bend that aspect to its will... although, it ends up working in predictable ways, leading to the invention of scientific laws, or rules which the Natural world seems to always obey. God could be defined as the metaphysically ultimate being.
