The Republicans have an excellent opportunity to retake the Senate and to retain the House as well.
I would agree that the GOP will quickly rally around whoever is their nominee. Mitt Romney proved that. He was widely hated in the GOP and only ended up as the nominee because he was the last man standing. They tried every alternative they could until they were finally just left with him. And yet the GOP did their best to rally around him once the nomination process was done.
As for Obamacare, your millage may vary but it's been great for my business. All my employees are now covered 100% on a much better plan that's cheaper for me to offer. It's win/win all the way around, except for the insurance bastards.

I doesn't help that in the primaries the GOP pretty much buries one another, the usually forget they're all republicans.

The percentage of uninsured Americans is at a five-year low and trending sharply downward. That is objectively a success.
I guess, unless you like the idea that only people with money deserve medical attention. Of course, a lot of people do.

Never underestimate the power of the GOP spin machine (they did successfully get away with lying us into a war) but I'm hoping all the doom-crying they've done over Obamacare backfires on them before November.

The whole election is a rigged dog and pony show. You always have dumb and sometimes dumber to choose from.
Republicans and Democrats have almost the same agenda. They just throw different flavored bones to different people.

I predict that the next GOP nominee will be a total dickhead who will fail to garner my vote. Again.

Actually, I think that as the parties become more polarized, this will become less and less the case. I think Obama doesn't realize how much more progressive he could get away with being. The biggest flaw in his character, I think, is that he plays scared far too often. Either that, or he is nowhere near as cynical about Republicans as he should be. He should have started stepping on throats in January 2009.
But, what is certain is that the progressive element is taking over the Democratic party, and that will, if nothing else, present some much more stark differences between themselves and the knuckle-dragging troglodytes on the other side (though, it is those very knuckle-draggers who are helping out the most in this regard).

I have to agree. Obama acted, at the beginning, that if was willing to move to the side of the republican party that they would find it in their hearts to work with him. And that would allow him to accomplish some of his objectives.
What he failed to understand and it appears to me that he never figured out throughout his first election, that the republican's weren't interested in compromise. They weren't interested in working with him. They were only interested in compounding the nations problems so that democrats would get the blame.
The republicans thought by making sure the economy stayed down, by making sure that Obama couldn't fix the economy. By not cooperating, and making sure that Obama couldn't accomplish any of his goals, that the american people would turn to them. Electing them to the Presidency.
Course we could always speculate what would have happened if the republicans had one the presidency, but as bad as the last 6 years has been, it would have been far worse if McCain or Romney would have been elected in my opinion.

That is a safe bet given their track record back to 1980.

I sympathize with this thinking but it could make light of the fact that the GOP has gone completely insane and must be kept out of power, no matter how bad the Dem alternative may be.
And I don't use the word "insane" lightly. Never before has any political party seriously threatened to deliberately default on our nation's debt as a political stunt. We can disagree on political policy but when you talk about destroying the world economy and transforming America from a world economic power to a 3rd world country as a political stunt, you've left the sunny shores of sanity.
Yes, the Democrat Party is a center-right party, and a really wimpy one to boot, but even the worst conserva-dems are better than the best of the GOP. It sucks to be a progressive in America right now but, like or not, we have a two-party system and will need to vote lesser evil until we take a bit more control over the primaries like the Tea Baggers have.

History will have to judge whether Obama was a naive visionary in over his head or an ingenious sellout secretly working for the GOP.
I'm not a conspiracy nut so I believe the former. That said, the latter would explain a lot.
