My ah-ha moment on that came during Vietnam.

There is a great gap between what this country says it stands for and what it does.

Not to mention, there are a lot of people who will use your sense of patriotism for personal gain. I seem to remember Bush spent the first two years after 9/11 calling anyone who disagreed with him a traitor, and he got away with it largely because we lined up in support of him right after the terrorist attacks.

Patriotism is like faith: it isn't bad by itself, but people can use it to get you to do bad things. So blind patriotism, like blind faith, is extremely dangerous.

I'll be surprised if this passes, I pretty much expect for republicans to shut this down while making fools of themselves in the process somehow. Yet the logic is apparent when the military spending is at such an excess, it could take a much harder hit then this. I expect a higher attempt of fear tactics to follow out of the media right in the next couple of days.

Why do you think such a thing is impossible? Do you think people in the administration were incapable of doing something like that because they are such upstanding people or do you think they were too stupid to have carried it out? Remember, it only takes one dedicated person to do something. Look at Snowden for an example.

If the Bush administration orchestrated the 9/11 attacks, it would have required that a fairly large number of people (in positions both influential and not) go along with a plan that would necessarily lead to the deaths of thousands --and possibly tens or hundreds of thousands-- of human lives. Depending on which parts you believe (for example, that the towers were rigged to explode) you are claiming that possibly hundreds of everyday people willingly took part in the murder of thousands of people and not a single one has experienced enough remorse to step up and talk. Even in highly-oppressive and secretive governments, there were people who risked (and lost) their lives to publicize the goings-on that they felt were immoral or illegal.

To be concerned with how you're contradicting yourself, you have to first remember the past. Conservatives can't. I think there's literally something wrong with their brains that conservatives can't recall what happened in the recent past.
