Does patriotic = stupid in your view? The problem is sending an army to do the work of an assassin. Bush managed to de-stabilize Iraq and Pakistan - Afghanistan was already a shithole - get thousands of our own men killed/wounded, and accomplished exactly nothing.

Today, Karzai apparently said he will not agree to whatever terms Obama wants to keep troops in Afghanistan (thank you Mr. Karzai!) so Obama has alerted the pentagon to prepare for a full withdrawal.

Karzai is term limited so he can't run again....this seems to mean that he'll be heading for some western country before the other tribes string him up by the balls.

Not to mention, there are a lot of people who will use your sense of patriotism for personal gain. I seem to remember Bush spent the first two years after 9/11 calling anyone who disagreed with him a traitor, and he got away with it largely because we lined up in support of him right after the terrorist attacks.

Patriotism is like faith: it isn't bad by itself, but people can use it to get you to do bad things. So blind patriotism, like blind faith, is extremely dangerous.

The fact of the matter is that to hold the belief that the government of the United States was in any way complicit in the attacks of 9/11 requires willful ignorance of available evidence and information or an intentional disregard for the evidence if known to the person. Strangely, this trait is shared by people that believe the Bible to be the literal word of God. In both cases, it's simply fucking sad that adult humans can be duped so easily. In each case, proponents will look down on those of us who don't get it with an air of intellectual superiority dreaming that those believing in the conspiracy/literal Bible are naturally smarter.

Tell me what it feels like? It being what must be some euphoric sensation that comes with wanting to believe something so earnestly; an emotion so powerful that it shuts the mind off to evidence and reason. Plain stupidity cannot be held to account here, because many Biblical literalists and conspiracy cranks function normally outside the object of their affection.

If the Bush administration orchestrated the 9/11 attacks, it would have required that a fairly large number of people (in positions both influential and not) go along with a plan that would necessarily lead to the deaths of thousands --and possibly tens or hundreds of thousands-- of human lives. Depending on which parts you believe (for example, that the towers were rigged to explode) you are claiming that possibly hundreds of everyday people willingly took part in the murder of thousands of people and not a single one has experienced enough remorse to step up and talk. Even in highly-oppressive and secretive governments, there were people who risked (and lost) their lives to publicize the goings-on that they felt were immoral or illegal.
