In part you're right, but what he meant was that ultimate truth can be found, within. (if we believe the story, one can assume Jesus meant that a life without God, will create an inner turmoil)
But...We don't need to believe in a Deity to live with peace, joy hope and love. Those things are the "truths" of a content life. With or without a belief in a Deity.
Yes?
I don't know a single person, theist or atheist, who is truly content.
I am.
I have a beautiful wife whom I love very much.(Kichi)
I have kids and grand kids that think I'm pretty awesome.
I have a great group of friends.
I have a job that I enjoy and has meaning(bus mechanic) with a bunch of guys that make work fun.
And I have a hobby that is both fun and dangerous.
So yes, I am content with my life.
Ok, more money etc would be nice, but not essential. And I won't lose sleep over it.

Yes, I think that contentment is more of a state of mind, a persistent mind set while "happiness" is more temporal and fleeting. But, we all may define things a little differently from each other.
To me, contentment doesn't "hinge" on how others make me feel or some outward "source." I think it has to come from inside of ourselves. Many religious people are depressed and live in turmoil so if God is this "answer" to cultivating contentment, I don't see that principle in action enough with the religious.

Maybe it was translucent and was just showing the red blood and purple bruises all over Jesus' body (as seen in Mel Gibson's smartphone video of the real Jesus)?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

This is a tough dichotomy. I'll take, hairstyle! Did I get it right?
You're missing the point, ronedee. The whole point of this thread.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Thanks, and hugs right back at ya.
I must say that I'm pretty content too. Most of my life I suffered from depression and a range of other things, but now I'm enjoying life. As Zen badger says, a bit of extra money won't hurt though, lol.

What? "straining on a gnat, and swallowing a camel"? Look I didn't read every post in this thread... only the OP....but:
There is more reason to believe the Gospel, just because of its small discrepancies!
If every account therein were exact, what meaning would it have on a personal level? We all see things differently, depending on our state of being at that time! That's the purpose of garnering as many witnesses as possible to get a complete account!
I can't believe I'm needing to explain all this!! Is this a slow news day?
The message "IS" the POINT! Period
