Never heard of it. Is it a tricyclic, MAO, SNRI, SSRI, or Antipsychotic?
Tricyclic. I'm actually mainly taking it mainly because it allegedly helps with the stomach problems I've been having. It doesn't really elevate my mood much, though. Then again, the last time I tried upping my antidepressant dosage, it ended up like this:

I took 300mg daily for close to four years, along with several other drugs, concurrent with working with therapists regularly (weekly for most of the last 6 years).
I'm well enough that I don't take medication any more. I've learned to recognize the signs to watch for that indicate that I'm going over the rainbow, and have been able to deal with it. I haven't had any clinically significant symptoms of psychosis in over two years - there's a number of reasons that may be the case that aren't connected to medication, or so I've been told. (I will also state that my psychosis was generally pretty mild compared to others I've known)
I believe that the medication helped enough so that I could effectively participate in therapy - though it's the therapy that does the heavy lifting.
The thing to remember is that not everyone responds to psychiatric medication in the same way. If you think your medication isn't right, talk to your prescriber. Fire them if you have to and are able to.

I had a pretty bad adverse reaction to a tricyclic. Went manic, ended up in Mexico, didn't sleep more than a couple of hours for nearly ten days. Wheee!!!!
I'm not exaggerating in the least.

Personally, while I do periodically suffer from depressio, and haven't had a serious bout in nearly 8 years - I have never taken anti-depressants for it.

I used to take them back when I had depression in my middle school years, haven't taken them since but I felt that they didn't help me that much at all.

I take Lexapro, and an anti-psychotic called Seroquel, they make my life a lot better.

I'm not trying to play the whole "I'm tough and don't need that stuff" bullshit.
I honestly think I've been lucky.

I honestly think I've been lucky. No, I get it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you haven't suffered from depression your whole life, right? That's the difference. For some reason (probably genetic) my brain never generated those "feel good" chemicals it was supposed to.
I was even depressed as a young child, I just didn't know that was what it was because I had never felt any other way. People who have the serotonin and dopamine working naturally don't know how lucky they are.

Yes we are all at the mercy of the chemicals and hormones of our body.
