I think I'm going to try Skyrim.

How does Steam work? Do you just get one download to one computer? Is it better to buy a physical package with disks?

Steam is the reason you DON'T buy physical disks. Steam is the awesome of the awesome.

Buy Skyrim on steam and click install... that's it! You can do this with as many computers as you'd like (but obviously can only play from one at a time). Also, should your computer crash... you can simply download steam and login and your shit will be there waiting for you to reinstall!

PS: If you already have physical disks of games that are already on steam... you should be able to "redeem" the key onto steam and it will add the game to your library.

Yes, that sounds like the awesome of the awesome.

Since you can only play from one at a time, does that mean you need an active internet connection every time you play? That's not a problem, just curious.

Once the game is installed you can set steam to offline mode. You will then no longer need to be logged in to play your games (but no online services obviously)

RE: Good Game for PC
My games are always either fantasy/sci-fi RPG's for solo play then FPS for playing with people. For solo games you can't go wrong with Skyrim. I also recommend Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age 2 isn't as good as origins but still worth playing. If you are at all into Sci-fi you should definitely give the Mass Effect trilogy a go. I only played 2 and 3 and loved it. I kinda refused to play the ending when I heard the drama. Still loved it even though I never saw the end.

They are all WASD to move, Dragon Age can be click to move and plays differently but its 100% worth the effort. Its one of those where you want to talk to every NPC to learn more. Probably one of my best gaming experiences so far.

If you like Skyrim and want more of that style, try Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Some people like the Fallout games more than The Elder Scrolls games. Its the same format but Sci-fi with a bizarre, darker and more adult sense of humor.
