Atheism & Bisexuality
#11
RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
I think bisexuality is becoming a prominent feature in many western socirtys as a morer liberal attitude towards sex seem to be moving with zeitgeist of the time...

In the same way I don't believe your faith & your sexuality are linked, only that ones faith may inhibbit them from coming to terms and accepting the person they are, due to a sense of self lothin and disgust brought about by their beliefs.

By the way, I'm straight, not that I have anything aginst any other person thats just the way I am.[/i]

That's exactly my thought. Those of us who can at least identify ourselves as atheists would have to a certain level of confidence and self esteem - I don't think it means that more atheists are bisexual, but what you're seeing is a more accurate representation of how many people in the general population are actually that way inclined.

That's strange you say that, I feel exactly the same way when I see a boy and a girl snogging on the street. Just makes me roll my eyes and feel like saying "get a room already".

Many bisexuals are atheist therefore many atheists are bisexual..

That's called a false sillygism.

Agreed. PDA no matter what gender mix is annoying

Pedophillia and the Clergy.

Or is this a case of deliberately choosing that profession because it gives them plenty of access to prey, and the environment of the Church gives them some sort of safety screen?

Who was using that logic?
My point was that claims made in public about ones sexuality and religion are possibly correlated with a third factor, which would make it entirely possible that you *think* there are more bisexual atheists only because you're seeing the *actual* representative sample. That's one hypothesis, but of course if you know something I don't feel free to share.

I'm not sure if you were aiming for an offensive comparision? Are you saying that people become atheist because they're bisexual? That sounds like rather simplistic thinking to me.

Yeah, I think the point we were trying to make is that there are a lot more atheist bisexuals / homosexuals that are comfortable about their sexuality and expressing it than theist bisexuals / homosexuals. Certainly the numbers in each group would be roughly the same (percentage wise).

Well, *possibly* well said, could it not also be that the genetics involved in producing someone who tends towards theism could not also produce someone tends towards straightness?

On Adrian's old forum I did mention the fact that there seemed to be more programmers who were atheists there than theists and questioned if a programming mind leaned more towards atheism.

Another vote for straight here by the way.
