Christian Priest to Atheist to Buddhist

I can see that.

I usually phrase it as "there is no chasm wider than what xtians claim they believe and what they do." All religions claim to seek "wisdom" and "truth" until someone who believes in a different religion does something to piss them off. Then its break out the rocks and clubs.

I don't give a shit what buddhists claim they believe. They have rocks and clubs, too.

Difficult when your own side lets you down, eh?

Thinking

Unfortunately for you Buddhism is nothing like Christianity. Buddhism cannot be understood using the Holy Google Search, it is something one must study, and dedicate themselves to. The first thing you learn when entering the study is to question absolutely everything about it.

Let down? Not at all, I am a hard person to upset. People do stupid things all the time, whether they be christian, muslim, or other.

"My people" did not let me down, everyone is entitled to make mistakes.

I will keep on practicing Buddhism, because from what it is about, is hard to turn away from

There is no god.

You have to practice self-betterment

You must practice acceptance

And it does confuse so many Westerners. I follow a branch of Japanese Buddhism.

Many people in buddhist countries are assholes. There isn't any difference between the quality of human beings of buddhist countries in comparison to other religions. Buddhist countries aren't a paradise and you don't need buddhism to be a better human being.
Religion is bullshit.

No one said you needed it. Titles are just that when push comes to shove it's the person and his/her actions that count

I don't have the time to look up specific references, but just look into the history between China and Japan, I'd have a read of Zen at War if you're that interested.

Doesn't matter what the religion teaches, people will always find a way to fight and kill for it.

They can call themselves Buddhist all they want, but if they do not follow the teachings of Buddha, then they are not buddhist. Also remember that Buddhism isn't the issue, humans are. It is not Buddhism that holds anger, it is human nature.

There are those who stray from the teachings of most religions.

The Buddha taught that inner peace was the key to enlightenment. Acceptance of others and so forth. Radicalism is not the buddhist way but that does not mean people who stray from the teachings could not be radical.

It is sad, but by most Buddhists those Buddhists are not considered buddhist :/

Ah, so, those Buddhist monks aren't buddhists at all?

You cannot have your cake and eat it my friend, they are Buddhists and they are killing others in the name of their religion.

Many Muslims and Christians decry the actions of others of their religion in the same way you are, doesn't stop the fact that people are killing and using their religion as justification.

You've also hit the nail on the head with another argument, you say they are not real Buddhists as they are not following the teachings of Buddha.... but these teachings can and are misconstrued, in the same way the teachings of most other religions are. Who are you to say what Buddha meant?
