Hello
Hi folks,

I'm an atheist from Holland, which in my view is a lot less secular than most people think. 37 years old at the moment. Been atheist all my life, but was shocked when i found out how much impact religion has on society, and on my own views on some issues.

Hope to have a good time here!

RE: Hello
Welcome

Comparing to some of the US atheists stories, we aren't all that bad on Europe.

RE: Hello
Europe is the best place to be, if you're not religious or believer in fairy tales.
And we (me and LP above) in the South have a nice weather to make it all that better! Tongue

Welcome!!

Hello
Thnx for the welcomes! Never been to the States, and I agree some or most stuff is worse there. People in the States however do not see their taxes disappear into religious education for instance. Which I do. In my village there's 2000 people, and we have 2 schools. One christian and one secular. Both funded by taxes, both have insufficient numbers of students. Both have a building, separate management etc.
This bugs me.

Oh yeah... we get that around here, too. We call it corruption.
Not only for religious schools, but any private school.... it seems that a few years ago that business boomed... right next to pre-existing public schools. And, somehow, the area's city hall is always responsible for allowing it.

RE: Hello
Welcome I'm a new member myself. I live in the states although born in the UK. Have passports for both and I travel back and forth frequently for work.

Acceptance for Atheists in the states I think depends on where you are. I live in Massachusetts which is probably the second most liberal state in the country after California, so it's not the worst here. Down south is a completely different situation - almost a different planet!
