"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Our constitution states that people have the right to send their kids to religious schools, and that the state is obligated to fund this. Private schools don't really happen over here. It's too easy to get our government to pay for the indoctrination of your kids. (June 18, 2014 at 9:26 am)Losty Wrote: Hello nice to meet you! Welcome to AF. Have some welcome cookies Thank you! I forgot that detail... these private schools that get the blessings of the town hall also get subsidized by the town hall, so kids don't have to pay to attend.(June 18, 2014 at 9:16 am)pocaracas Wrote: Oh yeah... we get that around here, too. We call it corruption. And the mayor tends to have some stake in the company that runs the school... In the end, the people have two schools, side by side, one public, one private; both paid by public money, but one has much better conditions (the private) and so where are the parents going to put their kids? The public school loses kids and, eventually, shuts down. In the meantime, the private school is sucking in much more money than the public school would. And it just suck in more with each year that passes. RE: Hello

@Losty: These look very good
@pocaracas: Didn't know that! Thank you. How do people react to muslim schools being funded this way in your country? Over here this is the point where the hypocrisy starts. There are a few relatively new mosques, but that's it... I think. I can't vouch for the whole country! |
