RE: Hello
Welcome , me brudda!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Hope you contribute as good as you did on the other site. Great poster Smile

Need you to have your book avatar though. :p

Thanks Fidel! You are doing okay I presume?

Added an avatar. Next step will be to find the edit-button so I can clean up the spelling errors my first smartphone created in my previous post.

Not only for religious schools, but any private school.... it seems that a few years ago that business boomed... right next to pre-existing public schools. And, somehow, the area's city hall is always responsible for allowing it.

It's actually legal over here. Our constitution states that people have the right to send their kids to religious schools, and that the state is obligated to fund this.
Private schools don't really happen over here. It's too easy to get our government to pay for the indoctrination of your kids.

Thank you!
I'm lactose-intolerant though... Would it be impolite for me to say so and add that I really really like lobster?

Oh yeah.. I forgot that detail... these private schools that get the blessings of the town hall also get subsidized by the town hall, so kids don't have to pay to attend.
And the mayor tends to have some stake in the company that runs the school...

In the end, the people have two schools, side by side, one public, one private; both paid by public money, but one has much better conditions (the private) and so where are the parents going to put their kids?
The public school loses kids and, eventually, shuts down.
In the meantime, the private school is sucking in much more money than the public school would. And it just suck in more with each year that passes.

@pocaracas: Didn't know that! Thank you. How do people react to muslim schools being funded this way in your country? Over here this is the point where the hypocrisy starts.

I'm an atheist from Holland, which in my view is a lot less secular than most people think. 37 years old at the moment. Been atheist all my life, but was shocked when i found out how much impact religion has on society, and on my own views on some issues.

Hope to have a good time here!

For the love of Darwin, will you PLEASE send some of Europe's secular sanity over here to the States? We are being overrun by right wing nutjobs.

There are a few relatively new mosques, but that's it... I think. I can't vouch for the whole country! Tongue
