It looks direct evidence has been found to verify that speciation is possible not only where there is geographic separation that prevents two populations from interbreeding "allopatric speciation", it is also possible within one single population where there is no clear barrier to interbreeding "sympatric speciation"
This suggests objections to classifying many simultaneously existent hominid ancestors as different species may be somewhat weakened.
