Meh, f'ing F&F too quick on the draw.

I've debated atheists on this forum who say that atheism is not a belief that God doesn't exist, but rather a belief that God hasn't been proven to exist.

Very good Lek. And that's 'belief' not knowledge. Two different things bud.

I do not hold a belief in God, as it is an unsubstantiated claim, hence --> atheism.

However, I do not claim to know there isn't a god, hence --> agnosticism.

Newsflash, many, many theists are agnostic as well.

Do you believe that there is no God or just that God hasn't been substantiated?

Agnosticism is the position that the existence of a god is unknown or possibly unknowable.

Atheism is the absence of belief that a god exists.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Yes to both (in my case).

I believe there is no God partially because God hasn't been substantiated.

I do not believe in god because theistic claims haven't been substantiated.

Because it isn't a belief that god doesn't exist. It's not believing that god exists. Smile

The proof bit is also additional to atheism. For some it's proof, for others evidence, for some both - and yet others still...neither..

That would be an agnostic deist or theist. An agnostic atheist doesn't know whether or not god exists, and doesn't believe that god exists.

Personally I believe there's no Abrahamic nor pagan god as can be found in scriptures and legends.

If you're asking about some higher power, the answer would be "I don't know, it hasn't been substantiated".

In general, I disbelieve that gods exist because the claim that they do has never met its burden of proof.

There are specific gods, however, that I actively believe do not exist.
