Enlighten Yourselves

RE: Enlighten Yourselves
There is really no point in reading it all. You don't have to read many pages before you realize that it is more junk than anyone needs to swallow. Most of it is just incredibly boring yabbayabbada.. You'd be wasting your time less by reading Donald Duck.

The best thing I ever did was read the bible. To confirm my belief that is a book of hatred. Sure... There are a few good parts but all the fire and gloom and how I am damned to hell... not my cup of tea. I instead retired my bible to the "fiction" side of my personal library... Where it is collecting dust....

I'm half asleep but this passage reminds me of Brokeback Mountain

"24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him"

Maybe I am reading the passage wrong but I can see your point. There are so many weird passages in the bible.

Sorry I couldn't make a good comment on this.

Yes, I've read it.

Read it - it's a ridiculous pile of ancient myths and fairy tales. It truly is a miracle that there are people who believe in it... Or it's just a testament to the ridiculous extent of human stupidity.

Every time I read the Bible it reinforces how incredibly naive or stupid believers must be.

Are you sure you want to encourage people to read the bible?

Edit: I would like to add that I've read enough of it to know that it's full of scientific inaccuracies and could not have been written by the "creator" of the universe.

Great thing about books is that anyone with the ability to read can do so.

Just because we're not religious doesn't mean we haven't already read it. Indeed, many of us were at one point christian (or another religion) so have already read it, in its entirety, several times.

I just don't get you guys and the presumption that we'll suddenly convert after reading your holy text. There's a good argument that many a person would actually be persuaded not to be christian if they read the bible, so like you I'd encourage people to read it and so some further research on the context of the books And when/how they were written.

For me it was rather a lights out experience in the spiritual department when I read the bible.
