What IS good, and how do we determine it?
RE: What IS good, and how do we determine it?
The theologians you're talking about don't have "theories", yet again you have a problem with words. Their comments on these matters can hardly be said to rise to the level of a guess. I'm being generous, here, mind you.......
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Theories?  That's the least of their problems.  They don't even have a discipline with a proper subject and body of basic knowledge.

Hell, they don't even have a coherent definition of 'god'

Meanwhile, many wonderful definitions have been given for god by people who have devoted their lives to understanding it...but these people are poo-poo'd by the faithful for not including opinionated ghosts in their definition.

Karen Armstrong on god:

Quote:merely a symbol that points beyond itself to an indescribable transcendence

Yup, she's clearly wrong, god is the thing sport fucking children and commanding it's followers to righteous genocide while opining upon the morality of gay sex, poly blends, and shrimp scampi.  How dare we lowly mortal worms suggest otherwise....

The whole point of theories is that they do contain facts. You may think I'n nitpicking, CL, but clarity of language is very important in discussions. Otherwise we end up talking past each other.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I apologize. I was using the word "theory" as it is explained in webster:

"Theory - a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained."

But you are correct. What I have stated is an idea/thought.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I'd've gone more for "supposition". But now we're on the same track.

AN OPEN APOLOGY TO REXBECCAROX

Becca-

I apologize for calling you a liar. It was wrong of me to do so, and I'm sorry.

I've been reflecting on this for the past day or so, and I've come to the conclusion that you really did not mean to state an untruth about God condoning rape. You have said that He does, but I think in all fairness to you, you may never have seen the additional passages from Deuteronomy that show God requiring Hebrew men to take these women into their homes as wives with all of the rights, privileges and so forth that any married woman would expect. Without that information, your perspective, while incorrect, is certainly understandable. Consequently, I think you were posting your views honestly and in good faith. You were not lying.

Again, I apologize for claiming that you were, and I ask for your forgiveness.

Randy

You just do not get it. It is still rape. If I go kidnap that cutie down the street and get a Vegas wedding, treat her well, give her all the privileges of a modern wife and more, I am still a kidnapper and a rapist.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

LOL, he -gets it-......he's just -okay with it-, or hasn't he made that clear?
