I understand natural selection pretty well, but do we know how the necessary chemicals came together, when the Earth was young, to form life? I'd like to know, and creationists sometimes argue that conditions on the Earth, when it was "new" were far too chaotic for life to have formed "by accident", as they say.

How did the chemicals for life come together??..

There is no 'accident', it's simply the nature of atoms, chemicals, molecules and organisms to conglomerate.
There have been several experiments already showing that several of the major components of living organisms can be created from organic chemicals. Amino acids have beenc reated from simply arrangements of gasses and heat, RNA has been created from a chemical composition and has become able to self-replicate. We honestly don't know how it all started exactly, but all of the processes are becoming clearer and the case for abiogenesis is becoming stronger with each discovery. Because such structures have been shown to be possibly created from simply consituents the creationist has little more than an arugment from incredulity as a response.

I can assure you that it wasn't some fucking 'god' playing in the dirt!
There are people here who do, unfortunately.
Whatever their silly book says they believe...unless it doesn't make any fucking sense or is too embarrassing even for fundies. In that case they resort to "exegesis" which I have defined elsewhere.
Honestly the origins of life remain a mystery but it is one of those subjects that continues to be studied and is a work in progress. As stated by Min I too don't think that God making mud pies would suffice as an answer to this question.
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition

It could of been God, it could of been aliens, it could of even been by some natural process.
Its ok to have doubt, just dont let that doubt become the answers.
You dont hate God, you hate the church game. "God is not what you imagine or what you think you understand. If you understand you have failed." Saint Augustine Your mind works very simply: you are either trying to find out what are God's laws in order to follow them; or you are trying to outsmart Him. -Martin H. Fischer |
