You were in cross country too?? I LOVED cross country. I ran cross and track for all 4 years of high school.
Those times are amazing!! Close to record breaking at my school, if I remember correctly.

Yeah I did all four years. I owned the record at our school for these until two years ago actually. I set all three records my junior year. I got scholarship offers for cross country to a few schools, but a knee injury slowed me down senior year. I still run road races in Michigan at least three times a year.

Very impressive.
Of course, the people in my family went to State, so I feel the need to point out that your basketball and football programs are just shadows of their former selves. Losing to New Jersey Institute of Technology in basketball while playing in Ann Arbor? What's up with that?

I won't delve in to the shame I feel from those. Keep in mind once we return to our former glory on the gridiron under Harbaugh I will gloat like the Michigan slappy I am.

That's amazing! Congratulations!
I remember the guy who broke the cross country record at my school did it with a 15:.... something when I was a Junior and he was a senior. I'm pretty sure that record has not been broken since.

It was WAAAAAAAY too expensive to do when I was there but I would absolutely suggest two other adventure-type things that were very cool to do on the South Island, that is, if you're interested in adventure-type things:
Rangitata Rafting
http://www.rafts.co.nz/
White water rafting in a freakin' freezing river - so much fun but sooooo cooooold... they make you wear wet suits. The rafting itself is fun and you get to stop and jump into the river off a really big rock toward the middle-end. This was my parents' christmas present to my sister and I.
The Canyon Swing
http://www.canyonswing.co.nz/
Gotta like bungee-jumping or have a least a little desire to jump off stuff - it was thrilling! I did two jumps, one solo and one tandem with my sister and I kept thinking we should have at least done one more each.
The tandem video is on my facebook page but I don't think I can link it.
EDITED TO ADD:
The Orana Wildlife Park was incredible, too!!
http://www.oranawildlifepark.co.nz/
We happened to get there at feeding time so we got to do the lion encounter where they put you on the back on a truck (in a cage) and drive you into the lion enclosure to watch them as they get fed, we got to hand-feed the giraffes, and then got to see the cheetahs get fed. AMAZING!!

I would love all those! Adventures are definitely my thing. There is little I find "too terrifying" to do. I've even considered BASE jumping, but the amount of time and money it takes isn't worth it to me.

I would expect nothing less from a Wolverine.

Definitely make time to do the canyon swing and bank on doing at least two or three jumps - the first one is the most expensive as it's basically covering the cost of getting you up there on their bus, then it's a much smaller fee to add additional jumps. Totally worth it!!
