It doesn't really matter what he answers. Obama is a professed Christian, but many people think he's a muslim. I'm glad Bernie didn't say he's devoutly religious, or anything, at the very least.
I can't imagine having the jewish version of Mike Huckabee in office. The NT is bad enough without someone saying the OT is what we need to follow.

I think he was straightforward.
He just expressed the basic position of Secular Humanism as his spiritual belief. Humans make this world better or we make it worse or we do nothing. It's all people and the choices we make as individuals and members of our societies.

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. Good on him. Any response would have been considered suspect to the FundieCons anyway. Unless you're one of them, you're not a real Christian.
