Again, the ancients were not stupid. They wouldn't have done it if there wasn't a reason for it.

Good Article on Crucifixion

The issue is that you can either rip by force or tear by weight up between the bones of your fingers and get free - even if they put washers on. This is much more difficult, washers are much more effective...up on the wrists. The romans would have certainly known this, as they had some practice. The christian iconography never could have been accurate. No surprise to any of us, but it did mean that christians had to scramble for a new story..and while the story they settled upon is reasonable...we still only have that one ankle bone - not that we'd expect to find many leather scraps from crucifixions laying around, ofc. An interesting note, even though it disagrees with the classic iconography of a crucified jesus, Catholics love to point out that Jesus was actually crucified through the wrists because that's what the shroud of Turin shows. As though that's proof of anything. RE: Good Article on Crucifixion

"The ancients" -didn't- believe in jesus. The world went batshit, for some reason. When the first jesus freaks were just cropping up the greeks were already pretty thoroughly versed in euhemerism, just as one example.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Some did. On a percentage basis not very many. When you start breaking them up by the various sects ( which were later deemed to be heretical by the proto-orthodox who re-wrote history to suit their needs) the odds are that no one group was very large at all. In order to study the matter you must first totally dismiss the bullshit story which they put forward and there are a lot of people who'd rather castrate themselves than admit that it is all a tissue of lies.
I actually thought that most cruxifictions were done with straps and not nails. I thought nails were only punishment for certain crimes
Oh well, guess you learn something new every day

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable." - Maryam Namazie
Is there such a thing as a bad article on crucifixion? (exclude deluded authors)
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
Ones that concentrate on the absurd tales of some jewish carpenter getting nailed.
They suck for the most part. |
