Well, he's calling for a stronger national identity to unite people against radicalisation but this shouldn't surprise anyone at Westminster whose brain works properly, after all most people I speak to in and out of the workplace hate being called "British" nowadays which may come as a shock to you American readers.

Honestly, multiculturalism was doomed to fail because the UK has no real "national" identity or sense of a community to start with, as a Welshman it seems you can't get from one end of the isles to the other without offending someone. Even among the majority ethnic groups you get problems. Just the other day I was talking to a woman from Devon about climate change, at one point in the discussion I let slip "We British ought to do something..." and she recoiled, informing me she's English and stormed off. Sadly, this hasn't been the first time it's happened either.

How can the UK combat religious radicalisation when we cannot overcome our own little prejudices and work together?

I live in a country with over 200 nationalities. We don't actually have a national identity, which suits me just fine. We do have quite a few people who try to insist Australia is still Anglo-Celt. This has not been true since the mid 1950s.

Within another 100 years or so, we will probably become a predominately Asian country. This bothers me not a jot or a tittle.

I must admit to getting pissed off when some idiot politician,from our stultifying Prime Minister,(Lady Macbeth) down, starts rabbiting on about "the Australian Spirit" when they mean "human decency".
