I haven't actually played that many RTS's, though one about mythical creatures sounds pretty cool... the closest I've come to that is Populous/2 on the Megadrive. The only RTS's I've really played are Starcraft and Settlers. Colonization was a turn-based strategy game... so you had a lot more time to think. You played as English, French, Spanish, or Dutch and colonised America, starting with just a couple of colonists and a ship, building up colonies. Then when the time was right and you had built up a big enough army you declared independence and had to fight a war of independence against the motherland, who were a much stronger force. So you had to use guerilla tactics to win, just as the Americans did. Each of the four powers had different specialities... so if you wanted to conquer the Aztecs and Inca's you'd play as the Spanish, if you wanted to trade, you'd play as the Dutch, if you wanted religious emigration you played as the English, and I can't remember what the French were good for And then you also had privateers and shipyards and stuff. It was just a full on game covering all the history of America. It was beautiful on the Amiga and had lovely music. The PC version has crap graphics and possibly no music (or none that you can get working anyway) but it still plays and that's the important thing... you can play it on DOSBox if you want
I'm also British but have always found our history... and European history... to be quite boring All about dynasties and kings and queens, and that sort of thing. I haven't got a clue about that... about the order of kings and queens etc. I am interested in Russian history though... so not quite European... or not all quite European.
I see. That is pretty interesting :o
I'm really into RTS', i love playing them. And Colonization sounds really cool. The only TBS' i've ever really played are the two XCOM games (not the older ones), and they're awesome.
Eh. European history can be quite boring, i agree. Which is why i mostly know a ton about the more interesting parts, aka the wars. The 30 years war is something of great interest to me. The Swedish empire rose and fell in such a short amount of time, and it's what started the Russian empire's rise. It's also a time when russia's brutality really came into play, as the swedish only lost because the Tsar scorched the earth when retreating, till the swedish were eventually out of supplies, and subsequently chose to charge into a battle, totally outnumbered, at the battle of Poltava, rather than starve to death. 20,000 soldiers died in a single day. So yeah I find it all quite interesting around that period, as it's when things kinda really kicked off in europe, as it was also the fall of the Holy roman empire (if i remember correctly, at least.)
To be fair I've only read a couple of books on Russian history so I don't remember much about specific battles etc... I just thought that they had a very clear history compared to us... and full of intrigue. But I don't read much history these days... it was just a phase that passed really... as things do... everything has its time and place. I'm not very sentimental... very good at decluttering because I can let things go... but it is still nice once in a while to have a trip down memory lane.

That's fair enough I'll admit, i am kinda weird, and am a little bit obsessed with history. I just find it so insanely interesting to me.

Interesting! Never knew that!
Before they brought two new expansion packs for AoK out (so that's 3 expansions, I think there may be more to come too ), they also brought out AoK HD Edition. And the new expansions are exclusively for that HD edition. I didn't know they also did AoM Remastered. You say "Or something of the type", I wonder, is it AoM HD?

If I had AoM I'd totally play it with you.
Do you have Age of Empires 1, 2, or 3? Do you have Rise of Nations?
I have all those games.
