But we (the U.S.) already do. We have the state control many different aspects of the economy. We bail out banks, we have Medicare and Medicaid, the Federal Reserve, etc. I think it's possible to preserve economic competition and capitalist profit-making while also letting the state provide things like healthcare.
That's not capitalism, that Corporate Socialism, whereby the state pays for all the duties which would normally be the responsibility of employers.

Like it would make a difference.

I don't hate the man. I just think he ain't worth a pisshole drilled in a snowbank when it comes to thinking. His mouth is in fourth, his brain is in neutral, his gasoline is leaded, and his catalytic converter doesn't work worth a shit.
What that means is that he's driving blind in a car that is running roughly and polluting the atmosphere every inch of the way.
Also, the fact that his "policy positions" are vapid beyond belief is one more reason to disparage his run for office.
He is the Ron Jeremy of American politics -- not only would I tell him to go blow himself, he actually does it already. Except that with his hair, we'd have to call him "the Baboon", rather than "the Hedgehog".

He's a batshit crazy motherfucker. The independents don't decide jackshit when it comes to the Presidential election. The only voters that count are the Dems in the Blue States. Everyone else is irrelevant. Based on the turnout so far Hillary will get the nomination but she will be lucky if she gets 100 electoral votes.
I'd suggest you start reading up about the difference between primaries and general elections.
I'd also suggest that you think about the effect a Trump nomination would have on Democrat turnout, and independent leanings.
I think your analysis is simplistic to the point of uselessness, forgetting as you to have done that neither Trump nor Cruz can pull independents in great numbers, neither can pull women outside of their own party, and that neither will be able to backtrack to a more centrist position without getting hammered for being big-mouthed hypocrites by whichever candidate they face -- but at the same time, neither will be able to pull women or minorities with their stated positions.
Here are the numbers for Clinton v Trump. Here are the numbers for Sanders v Trump.
Trump has a high floor and a low ceiling amongst the general electorate. He's a polarizing figure who cannot later try to mend fences without looking weak. He'a painted himself into a corner.

Maybe it is a message to all politicians that people are fed up with them, that they failed them big time with their sending jobs to China (which is a global problem) and the drain with 800 army bases around the world. I mean does anyone still remember Bill Clinton’s so-called welfare reform? It came down to president Clinton deciding that those who had given up looking for work, or those who wanted full-time jobs but could find only part-time employment, were no longer to be counted as unemployed. His trick disappeared some 5 million unemployed from the official unemployment rolls.
And now with Obama no matter how many times Bill Maher says how unemployment has dropped down it's not so perky, because many employed people are living on welfare like peeps working at McDonald's or Wall-mart.
I mean do you remember one of the first things Obama did when he came to office? The whole world stopped, press was ready for Obama to give his big new message for the new age - would it be closing of G. Bay? or quick action to stop wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? - no, it was to Google to remove pictures of his wife that someone photoshoped to look like an ape. It was like middle finger to the world.
So who knows maybe Trump is the best guy for revolution, because if he wins he maybe revolts all those people that like to be passive...
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I'd agree with this. If Trump won there would be a real possibility of a revolution. Would be funny watching the rolling news and seeing Trump dragged from the Whitehouse and shot.
